Multilingual and cosmopolitan, Aasil Ahmad's first forays in photography began while traveling the world. Inspired by the richness of human civilization and its tentative relationship with the natural world, he sought to capture these awesome phenomena with the simplicity of the modern camera. While studying the secrets of Fes, he expanded his world to include calligraphy, the ultimate form of artistic expression in the Islamic world. Upon returning to America, he continued his studies with Mohamed Zakariya, arguably the most celebrated American calligrapher of his time. Aasil lives in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with his parents and kitty cats. He works as an economist at a private consulting firm. Despite his seemingly dry exterior, he possesses a true artist's soul.
